JOËLLE BLOUIN
Dreams actually can come true.
Joëlle Blouin's passion for art dates back to early childhood. As an
infant, she remembers accompanying her parents as they frequented local
art galleries, and it was during one of these very expeditions that
Joëlle realized she wanted to become a painter when she grew up!
In school Joëlle was captivated by applied arts. Being naturally gifted,
she excelled in the field and won several prizes along the way. Joëlle
feels it was this early recognition that gave her the confidence to
pursue her life-long dream of painting for a living. Joëlle remained
grounded though, conscious of the challenges a career painter may
experience, and decided to pursue a degree in interior design.
Highly motivated and disciplined, Joëlle learned the various techniques she uses in her art by experimenting and asking questions. A self-taught painter, Joëlle has never had professional training. After visiting every art store in town and trying many different painting mediums, Joëlle found she preferred using oil paint and palette knife, an intricate technique used by some of the master painters of our time.
Joëlle's first private viewing took place in early 2008 at a trendy pub in Old Quebec, Canada. The viewing was a success, so much so that Joëlle sold the majority of her paintings that same evening. The Beauchamp Contemporary Art Gallery in Quebec City, and the Bourget Art Gallery in Montreal began featuring her work, and her paintings are now showcased in galleries across Canada and the US. Her career as a professional painter has launched!
Joëlle enjoys painting abstract pieces as they allow her to be spontaneous and carefree, however it is her urban cityscapes that have brought her the recognition she enjoys today.
In order to maintain creative stability she uses her own photographs for inspiration, turning them into "cubist" visions with bright vibrant touches. The 25 year old painter mixes her oils directly on the canvas using only a palette knife which results in stunning, remarkable works of art. In both her abstract and figurative paintings, Joëlle uses touches of gold paint to render a very particular light and sparkle to her work. The artist prefers working on larger canvases though, as they accentuate the cubic texture of her paintings.
Since January 2009, Joëlle has dedicated herself full-time to painting. When one asks this young lady how it feels to fulfill her dreams, her gaze drifts to the person beside her, a knowing glance passing between them. Joëlle's self-discipline and love of craft drives her to paint every day, but it truly takes a team effort to be successful. Joëlle's boyfriend helps organize the commercial aspects of her career, which allows her to happily concentrate all her efforts on her passion.
The couple looks forward to traveling, visiting famous art galleries and capturing the essence of beautiful sceneries the world over.
